One of the things I love most about running is the wonderful people from around the world that I've met. It feels very gratifying that people have found what I accomplished as an athlete inspiring, but I have derived as much inspiration from the runners I have met at finish lines, race expos, and other public appearances over the years.

2020 has been a difficult year for all of us, and while the Coronavirus pandemic may have changed the reasons why we run, or who we are able to do it with, it doesn't change the fact that running can be an awesome vehicle for good.

I am proud to be a New York Road Runners Team For Kids Ambassador. The money raised by TFK supports programs for nearly 250,000 children nationwide, in all 50 US states and Puerto Rico. I have seen the looks on these children's faces as NYRR's programs help them build their motivation, increase their confidence, and get their bodies moving. I was very lucky that when I was a child I was given the opportunity to run, and it's important to me that today's children - including my own - have those same opportunities. Maybe a future Olympic medalist or TCS New York City Marathon champion will come from NYRR's youth running programs, but that's not what is important. What's important is giving kids the chance to move, and be the healthiest and happiest versions of themselves they can be.

This fall, I'm teaming up with my friend, professional tennis player James Blake, to raise money for programs that are near and dear to both of us. James and I will each run a half-marathon on the same day as part of our Virtual TCS New York City Marathon Relay, and I hope you'll consider making a tax-deductible donation to TFK.
