Dear Friends,

THANK YOU for being here! Whatever has motivated you to reach this page, be it..

1. Complete disbelief: She's doing what??!?

2. Curiosity: She's doing what??!? I'm intrigued. Perhaps this can fill the vacuum Game of Thrones has left in my online entertainment regime

or

3. Sheer coincidence: Oops, I thought I was clicking on that 50% off  ad. My bad.

..I appreciate you being here. There are no coincidences. Keep reading :)

I’ve decided to run the 2019 New York City Marathon with Team for Kids and I need your help in supporting their mission. But first, some background info..

Why Team for Kids?

Personally, I have founds all sports to be a safe haven in what can be (read 'IS') a challenging daily life. I've moved cities and countries twice in the past 5 years, and while novelty and excitement are part of it, finding balance in the middle of it is like trying to juggle 5 flaming avocados while doing the warrior pose on a spinning stand up paddle board. In a thunderstorm. Sports gifts you the time to focus on one thing at a time. Stops the paddle board from spinning. Saves the avocados. You catch my drift (I promise my running is better than my metaphors).

Team for Kids is doing just that, they are helping a quarter million kids get the chance to know the beauty of sports, focus and balance. And that's pretty awesome. If you had the opportunity to learn a sport growing up, you know what they are talking about. If you haven't, then you're like me, and you wish you could have started practicing earlier. Practice makes perfect Warrior pose :)

Why the New York marathon?

Well. It seemed like a good idea about 3 months ago when I signed up. I'm happy to say it still seems like a good (yet slightly more daunting) idea now, 3 months before the marathon day. A good idea that requires a lot of patience, effort, commitment and well ..running.. and the weekly training schedule has not managed to break me down just yet. In Sinatra's words, these vagabond shoes are longing to stray - clearly he had future New York marathoners in mind. Clearly.

What next?

This is all from me! I need to go for a run now. But if you, THE READER, feel inspired, your small or large contribution will be appreciated. It will be your good deed for the day ;) And, more importantly, if you're in New York on the 3rd of November, I hope to see you there !!! :)

Renata

More on Team for Kids!

Team for Kids is a team of adult runners who raise funds for critical services provided by New York Road Runners youth programs. These programs empower youth development and encourage healthy habits via running and character-building programs across the country.

Making a donation is easy! You can click on the Donate button on this page to give through my secure fundraising site. You can also find information about where to send a check, or how to get your company to match your gift here! All contributions are tax deductible.

Your giving helps New York Road Runners youth programs:

Serve nearly 250,000 students nationwide - including 125,000 in New York City's five boroughs - through free NYRR youth running programs, events, and resources.

Engage students in long-term athlete development (LTAD), a lifelong journey that guides an individual's experience in sports and physical activity to develop healthy minds and bodies for life.

Help build the next generation of athletes by supporting coaches, educators, and fitness leaders with the tools they need to make a difference.

Whether you are a runner, have worked with children, or have kids yourself, I hope you will join me to further this great cause!

See you at the finish line!
