Hello. My name is Shaunta-Mae and I am an adaptive athlete who lives with multiple autoimmune diseases and a neurological condition that has left me paralyzed twice. I have since gained my mobility back and have run 12 races in less than two years. This is my very first attempt at running a half marathon. I am honored to do so in the city and state that has followed my paralysis to running journey for almost three years. Living with these conditions used to make me feel less than. I felt othered and left out. Before I became sick I was an athlete who ran track and played basketball. I thought my life was over because of my disabilities. But one day I decided I would no longer allow them to rule my life. I am a disabled runner. An adaptive athlete. All because of a community that supported me and showed me how to access my power within. Even with my disabilities. I have such a huge heart for children. Especially the ones who were just like me. The underdogs. The othered. The ones who didn't fit in. It is my goal to not only become a community for children but especially for those who may see those around them, running and active but feel like this isn't a space for themselves. It is my hope that they can look at me, disabled, othered, and all, and not only feel but believe that running and being active is something they can obtain as well.

With your financial support not only would you be helping me achieve such a milestone but you would also be a contributing part of a community. This community, in helping make children's wildest, healthiest, and fittest dreams come true. Together, we can help communities across the country to live healthier, more active lives. To donate, just follow the steps below. You can also click here for more information about Check Donations and Matching Gifts.

Thank you in advance for joining me in support of this great and necessary cause. Our finish line is active kids, healthier lives, and stronger communities through running! See you all on the other side of these beautiful 13.1 miles!
