Once again, I have decided to take the plunge and run this incredible race, my 3rd in total! I had the privilege of running last year virtually and in person in 2019. I'm so grateful to be raising both money and awareness for NYRR's Team For Kids, and to partake in the Marathon's 50th year. But this year's race will be for more personal reasons:
In late spring of this year, my older brother was diagnosed with Stage 1 pancreatic cancer. He also has issues with his kidney's and liver. He is in good spirits, taking the right steps to become healed and whole, and has a great team of doctors to help him both manage and beat these challenges. However, he does have a long road to recovery.
Also, last week, one of my nieces was diagnosed with severe PTSD and anxiety disorder. She's 12, and is going thru a lot. My twin brother and his wife and 3 other beautiful daughters are shouldering a lot to help their oldest thru this difficult phase of her life.
I'm running this race for them. For my entire family, really. Extended and immediate. These challenges have helped put many things in perspective, including that family is forever, and not be be taken for granted. And that we all need help sometimes.
Thankfully, making a donation is easy! You can click on the Donate button on this page to give through my secure fundraising site. You can also find information about where to send a check, or how to get your company to match your gift here! All contributions are tax deductible.
Your giving helps New York Road Runners youth programs:
- Serve nearly 250,000 students nationwide - including 125,000 in New York City's five boroughs - through free NYRR youth running programs, events, and resources.
- Engage students in long-term athlete development (LTAD), a lifelong journey that guides an individual's experience in sports and physical activity to develop healthy minds and bodies for life.
- Help build the next generation of athletes by supporting coaches, educators, and fitness leaders with the tools they need to make a difference. Whether you are a rower, runner, casual walker, hiker, National Park enthusiast, have worked with children, or have kids yourself, I hope you will join me to further this great cause!
Lastly, you can also Venmo me at @Farmer646, and I'll be sure to send you en email confirming the donation for your end-of-year tax documents. Whatever works best for you.
Thank you so much for your support on this journey. My family thanks you, as well.
See you at the finish line!
